New name for Springhill Farms
On April 1, Neepawa’s Springhill Farms LP will be getting a new name, HyLife Foods LP. Springhill Farms is owned by the integrated hog production company, Hytek and the name change is part of an overall re-branding of Hytek.
Hytek partner Claude Vielfaure explained, “The whole company is changing names, Hytek will become HyLife and Springhill Farms will become HyLife Foods.” The Hytek name change will take place Feb. 1, but it will be another two months before the name change at Springhill Farms takes place.
Vielfaure explained that there are two driving factors behind the name change. First of all, he said that they wanted “one name” to represent the fact that they run an integrated business. Secondly, they wanted a name which better reflected their business. “Hytek is not a proper name for [a] food [company],” he explained.
Vielfaure explained that the “Hy” in HyLife is a “promise of quality”, while also having a tie to the company’s former name. He added that the “Life” represents food as an essential product.
The new logo, a stalk of grain inside a circle, also ties to the company’s message. Vielfaure explained, “The stalk of grain represents a trusted food source... [and] the circle represents the integration of our company and our commitment to the environment.”
Vielfaure said that changing the company’s name was “quite a daunting task”, especially considering the amount of trade, including cross-border trade, the company takes part in.
